Benqué-Dessous
Church of Saint-Geniès
The stonework of Saint-Geniès includes remains from an earlier Gallo-Roman structure. Inside, there is a Romanesque font decorated with twelve medallions, four of which are human faxes (possibly the four evangelists).
Sixteenth-Century wall paintings can be clear seen in the choir. On either side, the full-length illustrations of John the Baptist and Salome are worth attention. Dressed in 16th Century clothing, Salome holds the head of John the Baptist. The two figures stand out against fine landscaped backgrounds.
